Support Men’s Health this MOVEMBER!
This year seems to have flown by, and we are already well into the month of November! And with that brings MOVEMBER and a spotlight on Men’s health.
Did you know Australian men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons? While Movember focuses on tackling the big issues such as prostate and testicular cancer and male suicide, we think it also serves as a good excuse to discuss the importance of the health and well-being of the men and boys in our lives.
We can all name a male who is reluctant to seek support for their health management, who brushes off an injury, ache or pain with a “she’ll be right” attitude. This anecdote is one that is supported by the research, which highlights when compared to women, men visit the doctor less frequently, have shorter visits and only attend when their illness is in its later stages. Just under half of Australian males are living with one or more chronic diseases. Further, 35% are physically inactive, with only 28% of males doing enough strength or cardiovascular activities on 2 or more days per week.
So how can we take action?
Well, Movember suggests:
1. Stay connected – spend time with people who make you feel good
2. Talk more!
3. Move more!
If you’re still not sure, encourage the males in your life to make an appointment online or call 03 9397 8877 to discuss their current health concerns with one of our practitioners at Williamstown Health & Lifestyle. Our current services to support men’s health include:
