How can a Physiotherapist support you?
Through tailored physical approaches—such as stretching, movement retraining, hands-on therapy, and functional planning—physiotherapy assists in managing injuries and physical conditions.
A physiotherapist looks closely at what might be causing pain or dysfunction, then develops a movement-based plan suited to each person. Their work supports improved mobility, reduced discomfort, and better everyday function.
How do Physiotherapy and Osteopathy differ?
The two professions may treat many of the same concerns, but osteopaths often favour a hands-on approach, relying on techniques such as manipulation and massage to support physical comfort and function.
Physiotherapy commonly involves active methods such as strengthening, mobility exercises and rehabilitation strategies. At times, working with both our physiotherapist and osteopath can give you a more balanced and collaborative treatment plan.
How can Williamstown Physiotherapy help you?
Our physiotherapists work across many areas, including sports-related issues, post-surgery recovery, and conditions linked to wear and tear. We focus on supporting long-term movement and strength, and can help plan ongoing exercise routines once the immediate concern is under control.
Our team is here to help you explore whether physiotherapy is suited to your needs. You’re welcome to contact us with any queries.
What study and training do Physiotherapists complete?
Physiotherapists will have a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy which is either a three or four year university course. Some physiotherapists also complete further study at Masters level to specialise in a focused field.
As part of their ongoing registration, physiotherapists must stay current with professional education. This supports our commitment to delivering care that reflects the latest understanding in the field.
No referral is needed to begin Physiotherapy, but it’s common for GPs to suggest it when they see it as a suitable next step for your health.
What’s the length of a Physiotherapy appointment?
The initial Physiotherapy session is 45 minutes long and includes a detailed discussion of your health history, a physical assessment, and a plan designed to support better movement and ease discomfort.
A standard follow-up appointment is 30 minutes and may involve reassessment, changes to your exercise routine, and any further support tailored to your current needs.
If you’re looking for a short consultation, we offer 15 minute appointments at Williamstown Health + Lifestyle for brief assessments or to address any queries you might have.
What’s involved in the first appointment?
Your first session includes a full discussion of your concern, relevant medical background, and a check for any signs of more significant health issues. If appropriate, your physiotherapist can refer you for scans or additional support.
Following the initial discussion, your physiotherapist will carry out a physical assessment to better understand your movement, limitations and contributing factors. Comfortable, loose clothing is recommended. If removal of some clothing is needed for assessment, your comfort and privacy will always be respected—feel free to raise any concerns with your practitioner.
Together with your physiotherapist, you’ll identify what matters most to you—whether it’s returning to a certain activity or improving function. This goal will help steer the treatment plan over time.
