How can a Physiotherapist support you?

Physiotherapy involves using movement-based methods to support recovery and mobility. This includes exercises, massage, joint mobilisation, and structured plans to return to everyday activities.

A physiotherapist looks closely at what might be causing pain or dysfunction, then develops a movement-based plan suited to each person. Their work supports improved mobility, reduced discomfort, and better everyday function.

Are there differences between Physiotherapy and Osteopathy?

Although there is some overlap in the conditions they treat, osteopaths usually focus on manual therapies, working with the body through touch-based methods to assist with symptom relief and movement.

Physiotherapy commonly involves active methods such as strengthening, mobility exercises and rehabilitation strategies. At times, working with both our physiotherapist and osteopath can give you a more balanced and collaborative treatment plan.

How can Williamstown Physiotherapy help you?

Our physiotherapists work across many areas, including sports-related issues, post-surgery recovery, and conditions linked to wear and tear. We focus on supporting long-term movement and strength, and can help plan ongoing exercise routines once the immediate concern is under control.

Physiotherapy supports a wide range of physical concerns, so feel free to reach out to our team if you have any questions or would like to know more.

What professional training do Physiotherapists have?

Physiotherapists will have a Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy which is either a three or four year university course. Some physiotherapists also complete further study at Masters level to specialise in a focused field.

Physiotherapists are also required to continue regular professional learning to retain their registration therefore we will always endeavour to provide you with the most up-to-date and gold standard treatment approach.

You’re welcome to see a Physiotherapist without a referral, although many GPs do suggest Physiotherapy as part of a broader approach to care.

How long will my Physiotherapy session be?

The initial Physiotherapy session is 45 minutes long and includes a detailed discussion of your health history, a physical assessment, and a plan designed to support better movement and ease discomfort.

Subsequent sessions are typically 30 minutes long, allowing time for your physiotherapist to reassess your progress, adjust your exercises, and carry out further treatment if required.

If you’re looking for a short consultation, we offer 15 minute appointments at Williamstown Health + Lifestyle for brief assessments or to address any queries you might have.

What’s involved in the first appointment?

During your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will take detailed notes on your condition, review your medical history, and ask questions to help rule out any serious underlying concerns. Our clinicians are equipped to identify when further investigation or referral may be necessary.

Your physiotherapist will perform a physical examination to evaluate areas of strength, restriction and imbalance. Please wear clothing that allows free movement. In some cases, limited clothing removal may be needed, but your comfort is our priority, and you’re welcome to speak with your practitioner about this at any point.

An important part of your consultation involves working with your physiotherapist to set a goal—something you’d like to return to or achieve once the issue has improved. This helps shape the direction of your treatment.
